Elling Reitan was born in Trondheim, Norway, in 1949. Elling Reitan
is considered one of Norway’s leading contemporary artists,
and his artwork is in high demand in Norway. He was nominated as
Nobel Artist of the Year in 2000. His works contain imagery of Christian
symbols, as well as imagery from Greek mythology. His inspirations
for his paintings often stem from dream symbology and fantasy life.
Elling studied under one of Norway’s most internationally
celebrated painters, Odd Nerdrum. Elling went on to create a style
of painting that was uniquely his own, which has been rare among
artists studying under Nerdrum.
Elling’s exhibiting career began late in his life, in the
1990's. He has exhibited in several galleries in New York City,
as well as other galleries internationally. He has exhibited in
the Gallery Westwood in Manhattan.
Elling Reitan’s works are often surrealistic, with elements
of abstraction and naturalism. He uses bold and beautiful colors
to describe his artistic vision. Abstract landscapes burning with
bright reds and greens are found within his paintings, which for
the most part, are lively and vibrant, with deep colors.
