Tirthankar Biswas was born in 1957 at Naihati. He attended the Government School of Arts and Crafts in Kolkata, receiving his diploams from that school in 1982.

Tirthankar has been a member of many group and one man shows, primarily in his native India, as well as internationally. He has won several awards, including an award from the Indian Society of Oriental Art. His expressive and unique art shows considerable movement and energy. Many of his subjects are figures without faces, flowing with energetic lines and curves.
