This is an exquisitely detailed hand carved Chinese Sculpture representing "Longevity"

This beautiful massive sculpture is made of Natural Jade Mountain, and contains lavendar and imperial green jade mixed with white jade. This sculpture shows Longevity surrounded by birds and small children. This exquisite sculpture is extremely large and rare. It is carved from a single large piece of jade, without any additional attached pieces.

The Jade Mountain Carving of Longevity is all one piece. It was carved from a boulder of jadeite found (with a skin, intact) on a mountain in Burma. This piece of jade is similar to three other boulders found in the same place 300 years before this one was found. It was originally owned in its natural state by a wealthy family in China during the Qing Dynasty (the last dynasty in China prior to the republic). In around 1908, this piece was carved into the representation of Longevity as it is shown here. It was carved by an artist very skilled at this sort of carving, however, the artist's name is unknown. This was during the reign of the very last dynastic emperor of China, Puyi or Puyin. Puyi’s reign was very short, lasting only four years. His throne was abdicated by the Empress Dowager Longyu. Puyi was only two years old when he assumed the throne, having been born in 1906.

This piece is made even more rare by the following interesting facts. First, it is lavender, green, and white jadeite, in a very translucent color which is even more striking in person; the white color is also a very pure white. Lavender jade is very rare. This piece was photographed through glass, as it was far too heavy to move. Additionally, the other interesting fact about this piece is that in Burma, where it was found, soldiers now guard the mountains, so that no jadeite may be removed from there. This boulder of jadeite was also cut by very hard diamonds, and has a hardness of about 7 on the moh's scale (the mohs scale is between 1 and 10).

According to the seller of the piece, there is some Chinese folklore associated with it. This piece represents Longevity, a figure based on "wise men" or hermits who lived in the mountains of China and were revered by farmers. They would often advise farmers who were walking in the mountains of which way to go to arrive at their destinations safely. They were very helpful to farmers and common people, but were known to not offer their help to those in power, and as such, were very respected by farmers and common people. The carved figure of Longevity was said to bring good luck to the family who owned such a piece. Longevity is shown holding a stick and hanging a gourd. These wise men were often vegetarians, and were surrounded by children and animals such as deer. He would have been well over a hundred years old.

The other three similar boulders of jadeite were sent to a museum, and have been exhibited there since they were found. I am not sure if these other three boulders were also carved, or if they remain in their natural state.

This jade sculpture is thought to bring good luck and long life.

This is an Antique Pottery Figure and Equestrian from the Tang Dynasty in China

This wonderful piece is from one of the most prosperous and powerful periods in China's history, the Tang Dynasty, existing between about 618 - 906 A.D. The Tang Dynasty was a glorious period in China's history, with a strong economy, culture, and military strength.

This wonderful sculpture depicts a woman riding a horse. Having survivied many centuries, much of the paint has come off this sculpture, though echoes of it still remain. The woman on the horse is wearing a dress that is painted red. Much of the red paint still remains. This interesting sculpture is called "worked forking," and was made specifically to be buried with its owner.

This interesting sculpture was found in a tomb from about 800 years ago. It is in good condition, considering its age. The material is unknown. The horse figure is standing on a square base, with its head held straight forward. The horse has a cropped mane, and the rider appears to be a woman wearing a full length tight fitting red tunic with a cowl at the front, and she is wearing black boots. One of her hands is by the saddle's pommel, and the other hand is at her side. Her hair is upswept into a knot on the top of her head. The rider's features are well-detailed, though some of the pottery on the face is worn.

Sculptures such as this one, made principally of painted and glazed pottery, are known as mingqi, or spirit goods, and were placed in tombs to provide for the deceased's needs in the afterlife. Female attendants were generally produced in groups for burial in the tombs of high-ranking women. The use of unfired clay to make this charming equestrian indicates that it was produced in eastern Central Asia during a period when ties between that region and China were particularly strong.

Her ensemble consists of a tight-fitting upper garment with a V-neck, narrow sleeves, and a long flaring skirt. Her hat would have been fitted with a veil for traveling in the desert. During the early days of the Tang dynasty (618–906) in China, this type of clothing became fashionable in the capital Chang'an and other metropolitan centers, and women also wore such hats complete with veils, to protect them from the city dust."

This is an antique elegant pair of Temple Dog Statues in Rose Quartz.

This is an antique RARE Lavender and Green Jadeite Sculpture representing peaches and flowers in a basket from China.

This is an exquisite antique carving on a Wooly Mammoth Tusk, of the Legend of the Monkey King.

The Legend of the Monkey King is also called “Journey to the West,” and describes the journey taken by the Buddhist monk Xuan Zang. Xuan Zang journeyed to India to obtain the Buddhist sutras, which he then brought with him back to China. Through his translation of these texts, and dispersal of the sutras throughout China, he was the founder of the Dharma character school of Buddhism in China. The Legend of the Monkey King also tells the tale of a monkey who was born from a stone and nourished by the five elements, The Monkey King’s name was Sun Wukong, which name was given to him by his Kung Fu master, who taught him the 72 polymorphic transformations, the art of combat in Kung Fu, and how to leap halfway around the world in a single leap. He also learned the secrets of immortality. The Monkey King became one of the servants of Xuan Zang in the story after he repeatedly rebels against the heavens, and is finally subdued by the Buddha, where he is trapped beneath a mountain for 500 years, awaiting his new purpose.
